TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO

Kanieri School—An adjourned meeting of the householders was held at Kanieri on Saturday evening for the purpose of electing the school committee, and the following gentlemen were elected : —Messrs A, Cumming (chairman), J. Free, It. Wells, F. Selby, BA Morris, r W. Cumming, arid F. Chesterman (secretary).. Midwifery.—A recent Gazette notice contains the names of the following residents of Hokitika holding certificates in midwifery:—Elizabeth Clerkin, Helen Clerkin, Elizabeth Gale, Mary Jaiie MacDonald, E. Stickle, •Jane Ward and Mary Wynne.

Transfer—Mr V. Smith, warden in the local prison has been transferred to Wellington, and leaves to-day. His place is being filled by Mr, W. McLaughlin, from Welington, who arrived in Hokitika yesterday. Westand Hospital Trustees. —A meeting of the Westland Hospital Trustees was held on Wednesday evening. Present:—Messrs J. J. Breeze A. Clffton, T. W. Beare, J. Toomey, H. B. Bock, A. Hutchison, and T. W. Duff. The following amounts were submitted showing the receipts and expenditure in conhectiott with the diffent district committees for a period of twelve months:—Hokitika, local - committee, receipts £4l, expenditure £37; Rimu p.nd Woodstock £lO2, £9B; Kanieri £63, £2B; Goldsborough £22, —; Stafford £23, £l4; Blue Spur and Upper Crossing £2O, £2; Kokatahi —, £3.

Hockey.—A match between the Kanieri and Hokitika Hockey Clubs will be played to-morrow. The Kanieri team is as follows: —E. Morris, Rose, Toohey, Staines, Cain, Caliari, Jones, Owens, Free, Burns and McFadyen. Football. —The following team will represent United against Ross at Kokatahi on Saturday:—L. Bonar, G. Michel, H. Bonar, H. G. Bonar, F. Amberger, G., A., and R. Meharry, A. Steadman, C., J., and H. Smith, A. Dimmick, H. Linklater, P. Heslan. 'Emergencies, W. Little, D. Meharry, S. Dicdrich and E. McCormack.
