CORRESPONDENCE
A PIONEER’S BADGE
(To " the Editor.)
• Sir, —I beg leave through your valuable columns to lay a public grievance, if correct, against one of the prominent Committee men of the Rimu Jubilee,. He is supposed to have stated that he received £1 note for a badge, from an old pioneer, who attended the Jubilee, as he was anxious to have one a,s a souvenir. Iu the first place, the badges were bought out of public funds, and be wats one who was to distribute them to the pioneers. It seems that the Committee were to be identified by wearing two badges each, and it was one of these that lie sold to the old pioneer. Also I noticed' an immigrant wearing two, and not iu the, district forty months, let alone forty years. He was told by a native of the district, that, if lie did not take them off, he would see that he did. So' he decided to take them off, because discretion is the better part of valour.
Hoping that the Committee will reply contradicting this public rumour, if it be incorrect. If it is correct, it is beyond my comprehension.
I am etc., SUBSCRIBER Woodstock, May 14th. 1932.
