FIRE DAMAGE
STORE BURNET) DOWN. CHATHAM ISLAND'S, May 5. Din’s store at Owenga, with the largest stock on the island, was burned to the ground early on Saturday morning. The estimated loss is over £4OOO. The insurance had expired and not been renewed. Owengla now is a sorry plight and distress there, is imminent with the fishing industry closed, no work available and the boat service temporarily suspended. Dili’s store was the main supply of the island and Owenga- residents (numbering 1(50) were entirely dependent on it.
