COUNTY ELECTIONS.
(To the Editor)
Sir.—l very much regret that your correspondent, Verb -Sap, has tried to bring in a contentious issue in the forthcoming Comity elections.
The effort of the Southern electors to get a full and direct County representation, has been born of a desire on their part to get progress. We realize the value of local representatives. We want closer settlement, and idle lands to be taken up; we want to see better farming and betfier loading ; we want to help those engaged in tourist traffic, mining and milling. V e realize that we are paying taxes and not getting our full benefit.
We know as well as your correspondent that there are hard times ahead, but to my mind the worst way is to close the purse strings. More development of our resources is the only way to get over our troubles. In spite of many local requests we have had no share of unemployment funds spent in our d\4 ;rict. There is a wide field for the use of such labour in developing South Westland. It is oil such grounds as these that I have consented to static! as a member of the County Ratepayer' Association.
I am, etc., J. J. McKAY. Harihari, April 29tli, 1932.
