I in-: received for the County elections indicate a desire <i:i
toe part ol the ratepayers for contests in the three Ridings for district representatives. The record by the -retiring Councillors is a good one, the management being snob that without skimping maintenance and general administration, it lias necn possible to reduce rating and still live within revenue notwithstanding that the harder times and the suspension of sawniiliing which returns considerable revenue when in active operation. The Councillors therefore have done good work. But it speaks well for i-nc interest in local .government to hud fresh blood offering and affording tno electors a fuller choice for the new Council. There are to he polls in the three Ridings. simple issue. Oil the one hand tv majority of the Council sought lo prevent cutting up of good farm land by a direct road through it- when acc-cs.-j both behind and before was pes-ible without, direct injury. The road possible in front has been u.-ed for years we are informed, hut local feeling •seems to have swayed public feeling, and hence a first class difference of opinion was created. As a consequence votes may lie influenced by a local state of affairs which hardly reflects on the administration as a whole. However, the question is one for the electors to decide, but those concerned 1 should not allow themselves to he misled in the matter. Tli.e personnel ol the Hospital Board has undergone very little change, Ah - AY. A. Jamiesojj replacing Mr Knock. The County district iias six representatives' on the Board, and the selected have been drawn from various pnrt-s of the district. The representation on tile Electric Power Hoard and Harbour Hoard has not been changed, which is a compliment, to the sitting members. It: lias been well demonstrated of late that excellent service is given on tlie local bodies, and; the is fortunate in so many qualified gentlemen coming forward to assist with essential administration. For the rest, where contests are to occur, the electors have the task of making their choice, and they have qualified lists of candidates to work on.
