The City Council last night decided, while i egret ting the losses caused by the riots, it could accept no responsibility for them. The City Council's Financial Committee hist night recommended a fu'thei reduction in salaries of officers receiving £.BOO or more. The suggested reductions were 4 per cent, between 1-800 and £495; 71 per cent. from £490 to £1000; and 12J per cent, over £IOOO. It is not proposed to reduce lower salaries, hut no grade promotions will he made. The .Mayor said the higher paid men will be having their gross salaries reduced by 27.) per cent., when the earlier reduction and increased wage tax were considered. The new cuts, if finally approved next week, will take effect on May 1.
