Cases of infantile paralysis reported in the Canterbury Health District dmincr the week ended at noon on Monday totalled three. A death reported from infantile paralysis in the week ended April 18th proved to have been due to another cause.

A decrease of two cases of infectious and other notifiable diseases was reported in the Canterbury and West Coast Health Districts in the weekended noon on Monday as compared with the previous week. The total was 13, as follows Canterbury : Scar’et fever. 3; diphtheria, 1: tuberculosis, 2 ; infantile paralysis. 3; puerperal sepsis,' 1 West Coast-: Scarlet fever, 1; diphtheria, 2. No deaths from infectious or other notifiable diseases were reported.

“Smoking is not to ho prohibited among nurses at the Nurses Home attached to the Christchurch Hospital. The Hospital Committee reported to tin* hoard that a recommendation had come before it to the effect that smoking among nurses at the Nurses’ Home should he prohibited. This recommendation was not agreed to, hut the committee decided that nurses should not he allowed to smoke when on duty. This report was adopted by the hoard.
