OBITUARY
REV. FATHER AINSWORTH. Widespread regret will he ielt at the death of the Rev. Father John Ainsworth, S.M., which occurred in Lewisham Hospital Christchurch on Tuesday -Me was described as one of the ablest and best of the Marist missionaries in New Zealand. Father Ainsworth was in bis sixty-second year, and was laic parish priest at Temuka. After completing his stucTes at Meeanee ' Seminary (now Groenmeadows). near Napier. Father Ainsworth joined the hand of Marist Mission Fathers under the control of Archbishop Redwood, S.-M. In the course of this pioneer work he won the love and affection of all with whom he came in contact- during his preaching missions in New Zealand. The Marist Fathers had their headquarters at Wellington, and it is .in that town that Father Ainsworth was known best. He was also engaged in mission work in Australia and, before taking charge of the Temuka parish a year ago, was stationed in Brisbane. Rev. Father Ainsworth was parish priest at Hokitika for several years liefore was he removed to Wellington, some 25 years ago; being succeeded here by Rev Father Clancy. Father Ainsworth had been priest at Newtown and Boulcott Street (Wellington), Napier and on the West Coast. His nephew is priest at Wanganui. Requiem Mass was held for Father Ainsworth at St. Mary’s Cathedral Christchurch this morning, and the funeral took place after the Mass.
JOHN R. STOREY. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) " BLENHEIM, April’ 28. () ne of Marlborough’s leading public figures John Sumner Storey of Kait-una, died yesterday. Illness .supervened on mi operation for appendicit’S a fortnight ago. He was aged 71 years. Deceased came to Marlborough 67 years ago from England with his parents. As a young man lie took up work on his ’ father's farm anti subsequently carried it on. Storey wa.s a member of the |,and Board since 1913 and for 23 years i member of Pelorus Road Board. He was on W'airau and Picton Hospital Boards for many years, also Marlborough 'Education Board and A. and 1 . Association. For 30 years lie was a member of Kaitumi School Committee.
