TRADE TREATY THE DOMINION OF CANADA. (United Press Association—By E'ectric Telegraph.—Copyright.) OTTAWA, April 24. Canada and New Zealand are reported to have signed the trade agi eineiu Tile pact was. executed on behalf of the two Dominion during the weekend. It is understood that- an official announcement of the terms of the agreement 's expected within the next terty e.iglit hours, when it is certain that the agree mo lit will ho eotnp'eted. Meantime there is 110 official confirmation. The new agreement gives Canada, it is understood, considerable concessions, under the British preference, to the exports to this country. The articles affected are largely manufactures The new butter duty into Canada from New Zealand is reported to he five cents per pound, similar to the duty on Australian butter. The imports of New Zealand wool are likely to be on the free list under the British preference. Tire agreement is fully exoerted to he tabled in the Canadian House of Commons during the present session. It is expected that Parliamentary approval will he given the treaty before the prorogation next month.
SIR THOMAS WILFORD’S REMARKS.
LONDON, April 25
Sir Thomas Wil ord (New Zealand High Commissioner), toasting th e Ottawa Conference, said that any delegation going there with the intention of winning would be an enemy, because. if anyone won, some other member of the Empire lost. Whatever tiie outcome, he hoped there would be a permanent Empire Economic Council. Even if reciprocity agreements were reached at Ottawa, thrive must be a constant liaison to carry out the same New Zealand was straining at the leash in the race for Empire prosperity.
