ACCUSED FOR SUPREME COURT.

DUNEDIN, April 13

Further evidence was heard in the trial of Lewis Willi'am O’Connor for tiie murder of Findiay Douglas Buchanan. Acting-Detective Gibson Isaid that on March 30th. he accompanied Superintendent Eccle-s and Detective-Ser-geant Nuttall to accused’s hou'se in v ranston Street, Anderson’s Bay, where they arrived about 3.50 a.m. They were admitted by Mrs O’Connor, but the accused was in bed asleep. With some difficulty, lie was awakened and whilst dressing himself, he remarked to witness and others, “I done tho murder!” and added: “I was not; alone, but I will not say who else u-cs there. It was my hand that pulled the trigger.” He then said he was alone, and, shaking hands with Detective Sergeant Nuttall, he remarked that they were not bad sports, and be would tell them the truth. He then told them that bus hand had pulled the trigging and that ho had heard Buchanan fall. -On the way of the police station, tho accused took from hip pocket a cartridge smeared with blood, and handed it to witness. Accused, a'fter being given the usual warning, was charged with attempted murder. He made no reply at the time, but, aicer the charge had been entered in tlio charge book lie asked what he was ■chajrged with. Witness afeain read the charge, and accused remarked, ‘‘ls that it?” Later in the morning, wraness found a discharged shotgun cartridge, smeared with blood, in a place about 150 yards from Buchanan’s house. Detective-Sergeant Nuttall corroborated the previous witness’s evidence. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial # The inquest on the body, of Buchanan was adjourned sine die.
