HUGE THEFT
- ALLEGED AGAINST GIRL. CHINESE FRUITERER’S LOSS. (By Telegraph—Per Tress Association) WELLINGTON, April 13. Charlotte Kaiu, a young woman, was charged to-day with the theft of a canvas bag containing £723 in notes from a safe in a Chinese fruit shop in Constable Street on March 24th. The accused, who admitted that she had stayed at the premises on the night of the robbery, denied taking the money, Sho was committed for trial. Low Foo said that, after drinking a cup of tea made for him by accused, he became unconscious, and he did not remember anything more till about three a.m., when he heard a noise, as of -omoum* trying to open a door. Ho called out, and accused called out (.hat she had struck a basket. He awoke again at seven o’clock. The woman had then gone. The front door was open, and {.lie safe door was open, and the hag was missing.
