ALFALFA PEDIGREE BUTTERFAT JERSEY SALE. The necessity for reducing the cost per lb. of butterfat production, was never more apparent than it is to-day, anj as this object can be achieved most economically, and in the shortest period of time, by the use of stock of proven butterfat ancestry, the above fixture, to be held on the farm Alfalfa” miles from Hamilton, on Tuesday, April 26th, should create wide interest. ICO head, outstanding in butterfat backing, are to be sold, comprising 64 coming 2-ycar-ol'd, picked liei ers, being in calf to, or daughters of, the wonderful “Alfalfa Herd Sires”, “Waipiko Masterpiece, the Champion of Champion butterfat bulls, whose first six daughters established a world’s record for age, on twice daily milking, averaging 610.491bs fat, starting test at an average age of 1 year 348 days, and his daughters in 22 tests have averaged 6031bs fat, mostly as heifers. Present indications are tlisit he will become even more famous through his sons, as several of them are doing great work as herd improv-
“Vive La France’s Last Son” (Tmp.) is another of the “Herd Sires,” and lie has greater butterfat backing than any bull which has been brought to the Southern Hemisphere. His sire is a full brother to the world’s record junior four year old, with 1145 281 hs ol fat. “Darling’s Jollie l assie,” and his dam is the world's record loner distance cow. “Vive La France,” who averaged SBBlbs fat in six consecutive tests, starting as a heifer, including records of 1,039 and 1,031 lbs. fat. This great bull is catalogued, as lie is being replaced with his sons. combining the blond of “Masterpiece”. “APalfa Flying Fox”, 32013. is another of the great “Alfalfa Herd Sires*’ and liis first daughter, now on C.O.R. test, promises a new “Class Record.” having established a record to date frailer age, by exceeding 3501bs fat. in her first 150 days, starting the early age of 1 year 315 days.
38 Outstanding Butterfat Bulls. Are to be sold, being mostly direct sons of “Heslington’s Combination”, a great breeding son of “Masterpiece.” The Alfalfa fixture is the oldest continuous Annual Pedigree Jersey Sale in the Dominion, and holds a unique position in respect of the achievements of stock which have passed through the “Alfalfa Sale Ring”, they, and their progeny having had a marked influence on many herds, in all parts of the Dominion, and in some cases whole profitable herds have been built up trnm annual selections at Alfalfa, which have more than paid for themselves, in sales of surplus stock. Buyers unable to personally attend the sale, can have their interests amply safeguarded by forwarding a Buying Order to the vendor, or the Auctioneers, Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd.
