WELLINGTON, April 7. Prisoners were sentenced by Justice Ostler :

Walter Hislop, for theft at Napier, two years hard, 'to be concurrent with a sentence- he is already serving. Malcolm Frederick Nottage, three charges of forgery and .uttering and one of false pretences, three veal's reformative. . ,'\h

Addressing these men, Justice Ostler said ‘the- offences were serious and in the public interest he must trea.t them with severity in order to act as a deterrent to others. Burglary with the aid of motor cars was a dangerous practice, and must be put down with a strong hand. Eugene Charles. Dominic Patrick McCarthy, ’ breaking, entering and theft at Wanganui to -three years reformative detention, and- Cecil Hoskyn, jointly charged with the same, to six months’ hard. Harold Middleton Lee, forgery and uttering, three years reformative detention. Daniel William Chari wood, breaking, entering and theft, and breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime two years probation, the prisoner to pay the cost of the prosecution, 17s, within three months.
