The time for the. Westland Competitions is drawing near, the festival opening on the sth May. Intending competitors are reminded that entries close next Wednesday, the 13th. inst with the Hon. Secretary, Air Osmers. The iseason for the competitions this year extends over live days with final demonstration concerts on two nights. The festival should be as popular as ever.

Local patrons of the stage will have the opportunity this evening of witnessing an entertainment of more than usual attraction, when the “Originals” company will perform at the Princess Theatre. Formerly members of J. C. Williamsons’ company, their turns of vaudeville and variety have earned praise elsewhere in the Dominion, and they are claimed to be perhaps the best company that has visited the Coast for many years. Comedy, dance and burlesque, with selections by a lull orchestra should combine to present a first class programme. This ceiling will mark the opening of the Coast tour, and they will be in Hokitika for one night only.
