WAGE CUTS

OBJECTION VOICED HAWERA PUBLIC SERVANTS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association ) HAWERA, April 5. . Wage-cut alternatives, as proposed by the Civil Service Associations, were outlined at a public meeting of 150 civil servants and business men, last evening, and a resolution of protest against any further wage and salary reductions was adopted unanimously. “We do so with the full knowledge that the last cut resulted in aggravating the position, thereby causing a collapse of many businesses throughout the country, and we are of opinion that • any further cut in wages will result in disaster to the community as a whole,” , concluded the resolution.

The conference of workers’ delegate® formulating a definite policy in opposition to the Government’s proposals for reductions of wages, abolition of the coftipu’sory clauses of 1 the Arbitration Act, and unemployment taxation, continued their deliberations this morning, At luncheon, it was announced that a delegation from the conference would await on the Government this afternoon, at 4 o’clock.

Mr O’Brien has been informed that several other petitions are about to be forwarded to him for presentation to Parliament on the same subject.
