NEW ALTERATIONS
BY EDUCATION BOARD. 'By Telegraph—Per Brets Association} WELLINGTON, April 1. Following 'the 'Special meetings 'held or the purpose of discussing in detaii the findings and recommendations of the isa-tmnal Expenditure Commission in so fur as they affect primary education, the Wellington Education Board {.as forwarded to the Government through the chairman, a letter conveying the Board's decisions. The Board, it states, is prepared to approve of the economies set out in the letter, totalling £250,C00, but it is stated that the services referred to are essential to moaern education and should be restored a s soon as the Dominion is in a position to afford them.
In another letter, the Board strongly condemns the proposals to abolish the nine education boards, and the proposal to control primary education by a central advisory board. The letter says that the system of un.fication of education might however very well be considered) with a view to effecting economies.
The proposal for the abolition of the Dunedin and Wellington training colleges is the subject of another letter. If it is found necessary to reduce the cost of running the training colleges the letter says, each college should bear its proportion of the amount it is desired to save.
