Amos of AVellington attended by Guides Jack Pope and Jack Cox of the Franz; Jo-sef Glacier, ascended-, wL 1 Mount Cook by the Linda route onk-T ' Easter Sunday. The party left Franz Josef on Thursday, Alarcli 24th., for the Aimer Hut, crossed over the divide by Graham’s Saddle to the Ball Hut on Friday and went on to the i Haast on Saturday. They climbed Mount Cook on Sunday, went down-. t<> tbe Hermitage on Alonday and returned to the Franz Josef by the Copland Pass. | On Tuesday and AVednesday, the weather conditions were perfect and a great view was obtained from Alounti Cook, the ocean being seen on both j sides of the Island. I The ascent is noteworthy as it was the first occasion that a party has been successful in starting out teoro the Franz Josef side. The Guides,. Atessr-s Pope and Cox, were two of the three Guides who on March 4th. made the first ascent of Mount Tasman from the AVestland side.
