EVIDENCE OF CRUELTY
AUCKLAND, March 25
Evidence of cruelty to a- foiu’teen-year-old girl, Eunice Daley, by her former employer. Emma Kate Keite, wif© of a farmer at. Pa.tumahoe, was given in the Pukekohe Police Court yesterday, before Mr E. C. Cutten, S.M. Mrs Keite was convicted of cruelly ill-treating the girl and was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment.
The girl said that on one occasion she packed the dishes one on top of the other instead of singly when drying them and defendant threw a pi’o of four, at her, breaking them. Defendant was subject to violent fits o' temper and on another occasion threw a china basin. It broke and she wa picking up the pieces when defendant caught at her and caused the pieces to cut her. She denied that she had sufficient food and water to drink. She was required to chop three kerosene boxes of. wood daily. Cross-examined hy counsel for the defence, the girl said that although she was bigger than Mrs Keite she was too frightened to 1 defend herself or run away as defendant had threatened to ha ’’e her committed to a Borstal institution.
