REMARKABLE ESCAPE

DROP FROM FOURTH STORY

iSLIGHT INJURIES ONLY,

* WELLINGTON, March 22.

A few minutes after he; had fallen from the fourth story at Parliament Building yesterday afternoon, Mr A. Pagan, a window cleaner, walked to a taxi and was taken to the Wellington Hospital where his injuries were found to be flight. After* medical ! examination Mr Pagan decided it was not necessary to remain in the hospital. | Mr Pagan was cleaning windows on the top floor at the rear of Parliament Buildings, when his foot slipped on the concrete window ledge. He fell about 40 feet, narrowly missed a few upright stakes, and landed in .some bushes on a garden,plot. A woman who saw Mr Pagan falling screamed and attracted the attention of two men, who ran to the garden where Mr Pagan had crashed. They found him sitting up in the bushes. He was slightly dazed, but he inquired from his assistants whether they thought an ambulance was necessary. ’ '

Mr Pagan was helped to his feet' 1 and he walked to a waiting car. Had Mr Pagan fallen from a window a few yards from where he was working when lie slipped, the result would have been fa till. Nothing coukl have broken the impact, and he would have struck the ground. Astonished people were seen viewing the scene of the incident during the afternoon, and it was agreed that much graver consequences might have been expected in spite of the resistance of the garden plants.

A badly bruised foot and shock constituted Mr Pagan’s injuries.
