Awakened by the crackling of flames, the occupants of a house at Stanley Point Road escaped Horn their burning home in their night attire at the height of a gale last night. Practically nothing was saved. Four occupants of the house, JL L. Cleland (the owner); a married daughter, Ai rs A R. Cleland-Puttie ; Alis.s Doris Cleland; find Airs Cleland-Pottie’s seven-vear-old daughter, escaped when the house was a sea of flames, and had time to take with them only a few personal effects. Mrs Cleland-Pottie intended leaving Wellington by the Rangitiki for England to-morrow. Her luggage had already been sent to Wellington. The house was insured for £ISOO in Lloyd’s office, and the contents for £550 in the Norwich Union office.
