Respite De. Valera’s denial, Mr Duggan reiterates that the oath embodied in the Treaty, is the oath dictated by De Valera at Dublin and presented in. London, recognising the King as the head of the associated States.
THOMAS CONFERS WITH KING
LONDON, March 23
Mr J. H. Thomas, Secretary for tlio Dominions, .spent an hour this morning with the King, presumably concerning the Irish situation. Ho then returned to Downing Street while the Cabinet was considering De Valera’s attitude.

LONDON, March 23
Mr Thomas, speaking in the House of Commons, .said the Government was sending .a comm uncation to the Free State Govrnment making clear, beyond the possibility of a doubt, Britain s viewpoint of the oath..; question, and the Free State’s falure to pay the land annuities, would be an manifest violation of the agreement which was binding in law and honour, whatever adminstration may be in power in the Free State.
