A spirit of compromise on the billion dollar Tax Bill led . the House Ways and Means Committee to-day fo vote for the removal of the proposed levies,oil foods,_ clothing and prescribed medicines.

The decision goes Far towards beating 'down -all opposition to a 2.25 per cent, levy on manufactured, articles, and eliminates about 150 million dollars from the- revenue of 595 million dollars, expected from the levy under the original programme.

The acting-Chairmnn (Mr Crisp) said that the committee must get something else, to make up the difference.
