AGUA CALIENTE, March' 18. Phar Lap has reached the ton form for Sunday’s Handicap. Mr William Neilson, the horse’s vetinarian, oh Friday made an enthusiastic statement concerning the Australian invaders condition. H|e said: ‘Thar Lap ia in better condition than any period since lie began racing. Not only will ho win on Sunday, but, in addition, X look for him to make n new record. The big thoroughbred did have some foot trouble, but that is now completely cleared up. The Americans do not seem to understand our way of training a horse with slow work but Phkr Lap lias never been trained in any other way.”

As the hour for the handicap approaches, Phar Lap is gaining supporters steadily, and is quoted as the distinct favourite. Spanish Play is second choice, followed by Reveille Boy, Joe Flores, and then Doctor Freeland, Good and Hot Scimitar, Seth’s Hope, and Marine. In the early morning the weather was threatening, out it cleared later.
The track is fast, and no rain is anticipated. The greatest crowd in the history of the Handicap will be present. The first race started at 10.20 this morning. Mr Woodcock pronounced Phar Lap as fit, “We think he will win, but if he is beaten, there will be no excuse;” •

Ais was expected, there will be a field' of eleven for the Handicap, the starting fee 'being 500 dollars. The horses are as; follows, in the order of their post position:—Good and Hot, Scimitar, Spanish Play, (Reveille Boy, Bahamas, Joe Flores, Seth’s Hope, Doctor Freeland, Phar Lap, Marine, Cabezo. Phar Lap’s position as number nine is considered good, as it permits the long striding horse (to break free of interference. He will have no bad actors close to him, .such as Reveille Boy, nor is it considered likely that he will be inconvenienced by “starting -stalls,’ from which he will start, though if will be his first experience.
The odds on the -eve before the .race were Phar Lap, eight -to five, Cabezo, Joe Flores 21 to 2, Spanish 'Play, Reveille Boy three, Bahamas six, Doctor Freeland eight, Good and Hot, Scimitar, jVlarine, and -Seth's Hope fifteen.
Post time is approximately 10.30 on Monday morning, Australian .time. The winner receives 41,250 dollars of added money, plus all nomination and starting fees. The s um °f 50,000 dollars is guaranteed, but Club officials believe- the total will exceed that.
