CAMBRIDGE WINS
VARSITY BOAT RACE
NINTH SUCCESSIVE VICTORY.
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.)
LONDON, March 19
The Cambridge University Club won the Varsity boat race to-day by five lengths. They won easily, almost paddling in. Their time was 19min llsecs. The Oxford crew were exhausted. Finishing 18 seconds ahead of Oxford, Cambridge to-day equalled Oxford’s record of scoring nine successive wins.
Sunshine prevailed and brought thousands to the Thames. Many took breakfast on the tow paths. Oxford’s only chance of an equal contest vanished when they lest the toss. Cambridge selected the Surrey station, thereby obtaining the advantage. Rowing with wonderful rytbm they lost the struggling Oxonians before they had passed Hammersmith, and without an effort increased their load in every stroke, Oxford spurted valiantly, but hopelessly, at Chiswick, and finished exhausted. The Cambridge crew sat smiling and erect in their boat.
