LABOUR ATTACK
ARBITRATION BILL
PASSES THIRD READING
(By Telegraph — Pt. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 19. , Labour’s attack on the Industrial 'Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill was continued throughout yesterday in the House of Representatives!. T lie lengthy isittihjg was rendered even more strenuous than uuual because of the fact that no adjournments were taken for refreshments, and frequent applications for closure and divisions give members little opportunity for rest.
( After the Bill, as printed, had been put through the Committee, Mr J. McCombs (Lab. Lyttelton) moved to add a new clause, stipulating tear, where there were sixty per cent, or more women engaged in industry, dispute should automaticaly be referred to the Arbitration Court, in event of the Conciliation Council failing to afford an agreement. Labour members appealed, to the Government, to- provide this protection for union employees. The Minister replied that the problem was to enable women in jobs to retain them,
Tho Prime Minister, intimated «t 0,45 p.m, that he would undertake to look into the Opposition members’ proposals before the Bill was sent to the Upper House. A number of Labour amendments to the measure were then moved, all being defeated, and the House began the third reading of the debate at 10.25 p.m., the Bill finally passing the third reading stage at 1.55 a.m. The House then adjourned until 7.30 o’clock on Monday.
