WESTLAND LAND BOARD

WESTLAND MONTHLY MEETING

KUMARA APPLICATION OPPOSED

The Westland Land Board met yesterday afternoon, there being present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr T., Cagney, • chairman); j[ • Messrs B. Ward, Wm. Clayton, J. : Ryall and W. Searle. •

The following applications were; dealt with: — j

Block VIII, Waimea S.D., 300 acres, t regs: L. Stuart. Mr Stuart who was in attendance, said that for the last 20 years there had been only one claim worked in the vicinity of the ground he had pegged out, and that had been, abandoned. The country had been prospected and was now “done,” and would never be worked successfully again. If the application were granted there was nothing to stop anybody from sluicing, if so desired.

Mr Evenden said he had recently been over the ground, and the tailings would not do Mr Stuart very much harm. He considered that the ground was still payable. There was no reaeon why both the applicants and objectors should not be able to work together. If Mr Stuart were given a permanent title it would interfere with mining which was of importance to-day. The objection to the application being granted was general. ,j., It was .decided to hold over the matter for one month, the. position to be reviewed by the Board. Section 3614, Mt.
