DAMAGE BY FIRE
OUTBREAK AT RANGIORA. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) ■CHRISTCHURCH, March 14. j A considerable amount of damage was done to the “Record” printing and ■ newspaper office in High Street, Rangiora, by fire early on Sunday morning. The Fire Brigade received the alarm at 12.35 a.m. and found the building, an old, wooden one built in 1859, in flames. Using three leads of hose from the town high-pressure supply, brought into use for fire-fighting purposes for the first time, the brigade soon gained control of the outbreak. A . good deal of damage was done to stocks and, the linotype machine was also :-damaged. The machine room, a concrete room at the rear, suffered hut littlh. The building, which is owned by Air R. J. Logan, proprietor of the paper, was insured for £IOO. This is the second misfortune of the kind Air Logan has suffered, having been burnt out-din Kaiapoi a few years ago.
v The main portion of the building damaged was originally the United Free Methodist Church, opened in the year 1859.
