PAKAPOO RAID
NINE ARRESTS MADE. LARGE CROWD ATTRACTED. By Teleyraph—Per Press A ssnciatioft} AUCKLAND, March 13. Premses in Grey’s Avenue, where it was alleged that pakapoo was being played, were raided by detectives on Saturday night, and all of the occupants, one Chinese and nine Europeans were arrestea. The Chinese, Kar Chong, was later charged with keeping a common gaming house, the others being charged with being found unlawfully on premises used for gn_wring. All were remanded till Monday. A crowd of over 1000 collected in the street, and the detectives fearing that they would not be able to tajce their prisoners to the station, found more men being sent to their assistance. A large portion of an old brick was thrown by a man in the crowd at a detective, narrowly missing him, and breaking a window. The man was later-arrested, and was charged with assault and mischief.
