FATAL BURNS
AGONISING INJURIES. ENVELOPED IN BURNING OIL. (.By Telegraph, Per Press Association., AUCKLAND, March 9. Enveloped in a sheet of burning oil, as the result of an explosion in a furnace he was attending at the factory of Grain Products, Limited, Newton, £ J William Albert Dempsey was,;, shockingly burned, about 11 a.m. to-day. In spite of agonising A injuries, Dempsey lingered in a conscious state for seven hours, before lie died. Deceased, who was foreman at the factory, was aged 44, and had a wife and family. Dempsey was regulating the furnace when an internal explosion occurred. There was a deafening roar, and the only other workman in the basement at the time was horrified to see deceased 'enveloped from head to foot in blazing oil. Dempsey was still enveloped in flames when the City Fire Brigade arrived. He was clad in a shirt and trousers, and these garments, together with sacks that had been fiitng over him, were reduced to shreds by the flames The flames were eventually suppressed with chemicals. The man was rushed to the hospital; but there was no hope for his recev. ery.
