The “Post” is officially informed 'this is contrary to fact. The banks are treating sellers of small and large parcels of gold alike. The exchange rate is changing day by day
WEATHER AT GISBORNE. GISBORNE, March 10. The heavy weather experienced during the past few days is now modera/ting. The liner, Rort Brisbane, which arrived from Sydney on Monday morning, and had to put out to sea, has now returned to port, and commences loading to-morrow. Heavy rain last night- brought the rivers into flood, though no serious overflow is reported. Mail aind passenger services are disorganised to-day through slips and flooded roads.
FIJIAN VISITOR. WELLINGTON, March 10. At present on a visit to Wellington, and the Dominion is Mr Barnes, Director of Agriculture in Fiji, who hopes to be able to arrange for regular shipments of Fiji bananas to Hie South Island. He -said shippers were not satisfied with all the fruit going to Auckland he said it was desirable Wlso, to prevent overlapping with ■shipments from Samoa. He will discuss the matter of fruit shipments with various officials, and also confer with the authorities on various agricultural topics.

R. OrrWalker, S.M., in imposing a line of £25 and costs in default three months, on Charles Davidson, a bankrupt tailor and mercer of Temuka, for an offence under the Bankruptcy Act. He was charged with failing to deliver up goods in his possession at the time of his bankruptcy. EARTHQUAKE FUND. WELLINGTON, March 10. A statement was made by Hon. G. Forbes to-day, in connection with the final meeting of the Earthquake Central Committee, which amplifies yesterday’s report. The statement of accounts show a credit balance of £77,047 and subscription in transit £9OO. Mr Forbes makes public recognition of the line work performed in the adminstration of the fund largely due to the efficient organisation of the Public Trustee. FOUND DROWNED. CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. William Scoori, 58, married, a wellknown Woodend farmer, was found drowned in Cam River, Kaiapoi, today. He had been missing since early yesterday. The discovery was made tli rough Seoon’s dog being scon guarding a waistcoat on the river banic, nearby.
