The Caucasus are having the worst winter for 140 years. Many lives have been lost, and there have been unprecedented snowfalls. On-,* village was completely buried in an avalanche. Seventy-five of the bodies bug out included twenty-five school children. WOOI, IMPORT DUTY. PARIS, March 9. The Central Woollen Committee is demanding the withdrawal of the Rill introduced in the Chamber of Deputies proposing an increase in the import duties on wool to subsidise homegrown. The Committee shows that ninety per cent, of the raw wool used is imported. DEATH SENTENCE PASSED. LONDON, March 9. Friedman, has been sentenced to death for the murder of Annette i Friedson. j
