IN THE COMMONS. RJ2PLM&DTO QUESTIONS. • Association—By Electric Telegraph.--Copyright.) Received this dav at 1.5 p.rn.) LONDON, March 7. In the Commons, Mr George Hall ex-Labour Civil Lord of the Admiralty said Labourjiwould support the largest possible reduction of armed' forces''""Obtainable jo&itiia Disarmament Conference. He - risked if Government had decided to slow down work on Singapore base. He' knew of difficulties in. view of commitments to contracts and generous s contributions by ther Dom-: inions and Colonies. M r Austin Chamberlain said our Navy was incomparably weaker than before tiie war and proportionately weaker than other navies, year after ye’ar, in anticipation of disarmament in other lands. We had made drastic reductions' while they had built up forces. These estimates were not measured by what was required for defence and the fulfilment of obligations. They were dictated solely by our extreme financial emergency and were defensible only on that ground.
