WESTLAND RACING CLUB

The Committee of the above Club met at the Club room at 8,30 o’clock last evening. Present: Messrs J. J. Mclntosh (President), W. E. Williams, H. T. Parry, M. Houston, F. McGregor, J. Breeze, R. Whiley, H. Newman, C. J. P. Sellers, H. Butland, J. Peake and D. J. Apology was made for the absence of Mr A. W. Yarrall.

The Department of Internal Affairs notified the payment of the 2J per cent, rebate on totalisator tax, and Uritbalisator permit for the Easter Wednesday meeting. The resignation of C. Guthrey was received with regret. The Treasurer submitted an interim financial statement showing expenditure to date, and the position of the Club, and favourable comment was passed on the improvement in the finances. The Chairman, Mr Williams, and Mr Houston spoke appreciatively of the position, and praised the good work in connection with the new stand, every credit being due to the builder, Mr D. Stevenson.

The Secretary reported the grounds and appointments in good order. Since the Christmas meeting the new stand had been painted and now bore a completed appearance. The racing tracks were in good order, and upwards of a dozen horses were in steady training.

General arrangements for the forthcoming meeting were made. It was stated nominations closed on the 17th. inst and ‘it was resolved to sell the booths the following day at noon. It was agreed to hold the proposed race hall on the evening of the race meeting at the Soldiers’ Hall. Mr , Parry was asked to take charge of the arrangements, and kindly agreed to do so. It was decided to arrange for two orchestras, so that- there would he continuous music throughout the evening. The prices of admission were fixed at: —Double ticket 7s 6d; single geiut ss; single lady 3js. A meeting of ladies to help with the- supper arrangements will be held next week, Mrs T. Stuart to be convenor.
