CONSTITUTION OF MALTA,
QUESTION OF EDUCATION
LONDON, March 2. -Replying to a question in the Home of Commons, the Colonial -Secretary, Mr J. (H. Thomas, said the Government had decided -to give effect to all the n-iin proposals of the -Malta 'Royal Commission.
'The Constitution would be restored to the Island, and steps taken to give affect to various "other proposals in an appropriate wtiy, hy the Local Ordinance by Letters Patent, and -by a Bid to be introduced in the Imperial Parliament-.
Regarding the strong expression of opinion by the majority of Commissioners, that in the interests of the Maltese, a-nd of education in Malta, English should be the „ only language taught in the elementary' schools, in addition to the Maltese vernacular, the Government decided to put this proposal into effect forthwith. Tlie Government had decided to reject the proposal that judicial appointment's should not in future be confined to Maltese.
Hit* Ministry has resigned in consequence of the Royal 'Commission’s report, considering their mission accomplished.
