UNEMPLOYED RELIEF COST OF SYDNEY BRIDGE. SYDNEY, March 3. Replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly, tlie Premier said that the cost of unemployed relief between July Ist and January 31st was approximate £8,000,000. The total cost of the Harbour Bridge was £9,500,000. Moving the second reading of tlie Gas and Electricity Bill in the Legis lative Assembly, Mr Baddelev, Minister of Labour and Industry, said the Mills reduced the rate of dividend payable by companies from eight to six per cent on ordinary shares, and from 7) to 51 per cent on preference shares. He said a full time salaried commissioner was being appointed to inquire into the prices of gas charged by various companies.

The Under-Secretary for Labour and Industry, Mr J. Kitching, was thus being appointed. Mr Stevens, Deputy-Leader of the Opposition, described the Bill as an outrage. He added that there were limits beyond which the public could not be expected to tolerate “this wholesale unblushing confiscation of assets of industry.” The debate is not concluded.
