OTIRA TUNNEL

INCREASE IN TRAFFIC. Primarily as the result of increased orders for coal and the re-opening of the Dobson Mine, 9003 tons more freight was hauled by the railways from the West Coast to Canterbury through the Otira tunnel in February than in the previous month. In January 21,626 tons of goods were carried, whereas last month the tonnage was 30,629. The latter figure represents a decrease on the figure for February of last year, when 34,375 tons of freight were,hauled. The detailed figures for the. last four weeks are as follows:
