NEW ZEALAND V. S. AFRICA. HOME TEAM’S MODERATE SCORE [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 27. Tho first test match between New Zealand and South Africa opened today at Lancaster Park in brilliant weather. The wicket was a trifle slow but true and easy, and the outfield was dead. The attendance in the afternoon was estimated at from 5000 to 6000. New Zealand won the toss and ,halted. After ,a disappointing opening when the wickets of Kerr, Dempster and Blunt fell for a total of 38 runs, Weir and Roberts retrieved the position with a fine partnership of 90 runs. Ths partnership was followed by other improved batting performances. Badcock tv as top scorer with 64, and gave a magnificent display of batting. His total included three sixes.
