JUBILEE OF CHURCH
ST. GEORGE’S, THAMES. THAMES, February 22. The diamond jubilee of St. George’s Church of England was held during, the week-end. Archbishop Averill attended. It had been intended to hold a garden party on Saturday, but pouring rain compelled its abandonment. A reception was held instead in the parish hall, and was attended by numerous visitors from all parts ol New Zealand and also from Sydney and Hobart.
Five thanksgiving services were held on Sunday. The church, which holds 800, was crowded to the doors in the ■afternoon and evening. The ArchhMpp congratulated the people on having such a good heritage left them by the pioneers of the church in 1872, when the present building was erected. He urged them, by this milestone, vo carry o,n the- good work which liad been begun so long ago. Two oast vicars attended the celebrations, Archdeacon Evans, of New Plymouth, and the Rev. R. B. Davison, of Devonport. Many letters were received regretting inability to attend from early church adherents all over New Zealand.
