A link with the earliest days of Methodism in England has come into the possession of the New Zealand Methodist Church, in the shape of a .pair of old-fashioned brass candlesticks, used by John Wesley in his room at Wesley’s Chapel, City Road, London. At the session of the Methodist Conference it' was announced that the president, the Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt, had received the relics from the trustees of the estate of the late Miss Eliza Kitchingham, of Christchurch. The candelsticks will be handed to the Church museum authorities. The relics first came into the possession of the great-grand-father of Miss Kitchingham, and had been retained jn the family since then.

At the Supreme Court, Greymouth before Mr Justice Adams, Arthur Woodhouse (Mr J. W, Hannan) applied for a dissolution of marriage with Lois Stevenson Woodhouse (Mr W, P, McCarthy) on the grounds of desertion. Mr McCarthy said that, by agreement, it had been decided to take the respondent’s case first. Arthur Woodhouse, miner, residing in Cobden, said that his wife was born in Dunedin and now resided in Invercargill. Witness married respondent on December 22. 1898. There were seven children of the marriage. Ther e was only one child under sixteen years of age, and the wife was applying for the custody of the child. Respondent’s evidence, taken in Invercargill, was read. She stated that there was no desertion on her part but that her husband had been guilty of constructive desertion towards her, and that a separation and maintenance order against him was made in 1928. Petitioner admitted the allegation. His Honor granted a degree nisi, in favour of the respondent, to be made absolute after three months. Costs were allowed to respondent, to be paid by the petitioner.
