TRANSPORT CONTROL

DISTRICT LICENSING AUTHORITY MINISTER ANNOUNCES THE PERSONNEL 'WELLINGTON, February 24. The, personnel of the District Licensing Authorities under the Transport Licensing Act was announced by the Minister for Transport, the lit. Hon. J. ■&. Coates, to-night. In announcing the appointments, Mr Coates said that to date about 630 applications for passenger service licen- : ses had been received and they were being prepared by the Transport Department for submission' to the appropriate licensing authorities. The Central Licensing Authority, which had already commenced its public sittings, would deal with over 160 applications, aiid the remainder would be dealt with 1$ ten district licensing authorities. Applications for services running exclusively inside the four main centres would, of course, be dealt with by the metropolitan, licensing authorities, and were not included in the above-mentioned figures. “It is anticipated that all the district licensing authorities will hold their public sittings about the end of this month,” said Mr Coates, “and that all the applications will he finalised by the end of March. As soon as passenger services have been licensed, immediate consideration will be given to the regulation and co-ordina-tion of goods services running on defined routes, and it is expected that this class of transport will call for a considerable amount of care and investigation. as it differs materially from the passenger-carrying business. I think the Government has been exceedingly fortunate in securing the services of gentlemen with wide public experience and ability to administer the transport problems in each district, and I feel sure they will succeed in laying the foundation of reforms in co-ordinating our various transport facilities.” Following is the personnel of the licensing authorities:
