CAMPBELL SETS NEW SPEED

Driving the Bluebird at Datona Beach, Sir Malcolm Campbell exceeding his previous record by 8.235 miles an hour on the southward run over an official mile in 13.4(j seconds, the northward rim occupying 14.89 seconds. There was considerable confusion after the first run as he did not appear to la; travelling at record- speed. ■Officials delayed announcing the" speed until after lie bad completed the second mil. They checked and reclieckand then announced that the time for the first run was correct and that Campbell had set a new record. Campbell broke the speed record tavelling at a rate of 352.908 miles an hour.
