PLANE MYSTERY
RUMOUR OF A CRASH. {By Telegraph —Per Press Associationi 'CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 25. An unconfirmed report last evening stated that an aeroplane had been seen flying over Banks Peninsula, and had crashed in a gully below the Hilltop Hotel. Searchers were unable to find any trace of a machine, or pilot. Squadron-Leader J. Findlay, of Wigram Aerodrome, states that all air force machines and private planes usually kept there, are accounted for. The police are still investigating. M.r G. Petty, proprietor' of the Hilltop Hotel, says that .smoke was observed early this morning, rising fTom the bush nearly three miles below the Hilltop in a valley, where the first story indicated that the plane had crashed. Search parties have resumed operations
