THE CEREMONIAL SIDE. (By Telegraph—Fer Frets Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. In misty weather this afternoon, the ceremonial side of Parliament’s opening was performed by the Gov-ernor-General. After inspecting the guard of honour provided by St Patrick’s College he proceeded to the Legislative Council Chamber and read the speech from the throne. With traditional ceremony the official opening of Parliament by the GovernorGenera) was performed to-day. Light rain fell a s the Vice-Regal party entered Parliament grounds where his Excellency inspected the Guard of Honour provided by St. Patrick’s College cadets while Lady Bledisloe was escorted to her place in t'he Legislative Council chamber. On entering Parliament, blouse after inspecting the guard, Lord Blodisloe was met by the Gentleman usher of the Black Rod (A. T. Bothamley) and members of naval and military fitaffs. Taking his, seat on the Throne, his Excellency commanded the Black Rod to summon members of the House of (Represent!!tit-os who shortly afterwards filed in. The speech from the throne was read by Lord Bledisloe. When members of the House of Representative;; returned to their own chamber, notice was given of the intention to introduce the following bills —State- Lottery Bill (Mr Biaek). Silver arid Copper Coinage Bill ('Mr Wilkinson). Mr Murdoch gave notice of intention ,/ to move a formal address in reply .. motion. The Leader of th- Opposition gave notice of intention to move an amendment to the address in'> < ply motion. Tin: ,House rose at 3.15 till* 2.30 next day. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The- I.ogi lative Council met a I 3 p.m. Notification of a vacancy caused by the death of Hon. Kariii-iliaw was received from the Governor-General. Hon. Gow gave notice of his inlenI j<»i to move an Address-iii-Rcpl.y motion. The Council rose at 3.5 p.m. until next day.
