LORRY AFIRE
A SPECTACULAR BLAZE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 22. A lorry, heavily laden with wool capsized on Saturday as it attempted to cross the railway line, just south of Waihanae, and immediate’,v burst into flames. Bales of wool which were spilled right across the railway crossing, also caught lire. The ro;i(•■igration lit up the countryside lor miles. So fierce was the lire that the woodwork' on the cattle stop caught alight, -and held up tbo northbound Fields express which arrived at Pamorston North about seveiitv minutes late, A long queue of motor-'•ar.r, from belli directions also had to wait until the fire subsided •
Tin* In iy was owned by Ibe Highway Transport. Company, and was bringing a big load of wool from Shannon 1.0 Wellington. Despite the rain, some of tin* bales of wool were still smouldering yesterday afternoon.
