Hamilton and Coupland were forced down in a gale at G’rosseto and lost so much time that their chances of a record have vanished. They were taken to a police station to explain why they landed.

Hamilton arid Coupland left for Athens, after arriving fifteen hours late. The machine dropped like a stone for a thousand feet after passing Genoa.

The contents of tire ’plane wore hurled against the ceiling stunning the pilot, Hamilton, and cutting the heads of both. Hamilton recovered, climbed, and swerved to avoid a snowclad hilltop. They landed on a deserted emergency living field at Crosseto where they spout the night.
