PRISONER CUDBY

ESCAPES AGAIN. HIS WIFE ARRESTED. (By Telegraph—Fer Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 3. After an unsuccessful attempt-, last night, a prisoner named Roy George Cuclbv, escaped from Auckland Hospital at three o’clock this morning. Fie has not been seen since, hut his wife, a half caste Maori, was arrested shortly afterwards near the hospital.

She w;is found to have an attache case, containing a complete woman’s outfit, including two overcoats, and also a man’s shoes, a razor, and "rouge powder. Also a noteAfrom her self to her husband, wishing him luck, and advising him to take care of himself.

Cudby was sentenced on December 14th, 1931, on a charge of escaping, ( while in custody, from Wellington Flosoital in 1929, also on charges of breaking, entering and theft, and procuring a revolver. His sentences totalled three years, additional to the term he was serving when he escaped in 1929.

On Sunday, Cudby’s left eye was removed. He was in a ward on the first floor, and three warder 9 were guarding him, in eight-hour shifts. Last night he dashed from his bed, but ft warder caught him under a bed in another ward.

At three o’clock he went to a hmt* tory, the warder remaining outside, Thinking he might be , escapirg through the window, the warder went round to the window. Cudby escaped through the door, went-to an open window, and slid to the ground. He was dressed only in pyjamas.

The police allege that the escape was tuby planned.
