OLD MAN ATTACKED
BY YOUNG ROBBERS

CHRISTCHURCH, February 3
An attempt to rob an elderly man, Air A. Drought, who keeps a small grocer’s ■ shop in Opawa Road, was made by two youths to-night.
Two young men came 'to his house, ,near the shop, and asked him for a box of matches. When Drought, who lives alone, went to the shop for the matches, one of the youths hid in the 'wash-house, land when Drought returned, tiie youth a-ruck him on the head with a pea rifle, knocked him down -and kicked him.
Drought called for help. A passerby came to his assistance. The passer-by caught, and held the youth, aged 18 years, who had struck Drought, but 'the other young man escaped. A liter this young mail’s arrest, the rifle was found 'to be loaded.
