TWO CHAMPIONS BEATEN

AUCKLAND, January 2ft

A feature of (this morning’s play in the New Zealand Tennis Championships was the defeat of the national singles champion, A. G. Stedman (Auckland), by the Gfynterbmy colt, Barnett, who, last week, attracted much attention by ids successive victories in the Wilding Shield matches.

Barnett won decisively G —l, G—4, G—l. The New Zealand woman cliimipion, -Mrs Dykes (Auckland), was also heavily defeated by -Miss N. Hall, of the. visiting New South Wales team. The score was 6—4, G—o- - only New Zealander left this morning in the singles was truss Nieholls (Wellington), who still had to meet Miss Hartigan (New South Wales), for the right to enter tho semi-finals.
