MOTOR-CYCLING TRAGEDY.

(By Telegraph—Ver Brest Association) PALMERSTON N., January 25. Jopmjyh'i'pl Mason, aged seventeen, residing with his parents at Grey Street, Palmerston North, was killed when a motor-cycle capsized over a bank on Reid’s line near Bunnythorpe, at 7.45 last evening. Mason’s companion in the side-car escaped, being thrown clear, A sad feature of the accident was the fact that Mason had been to Bunnythorpe to attend the funeral of B. Elwin, the young" man killed at the motor-cycle sports at Marton laßt Friday, and had afterwards assisted Elwin’s father with the milking ere returning home. On the downward grade, when close ti an inter-section, Mason was stated to have applied the brakes, with the result that the motor-cycle, which had gained momentum, capsized over the bank. Mason was thrown violently, and broke bis neck, BOY DRAGGED BY HORSE. CHRISTCHURCH, January 26. Barney Trowbridge, a son of Mr James Trowbridge, of Rangiora, was seriously injured on Saturday evening when a horse lie was holding bolted. He had tied the reins round his wrist and the horse which became alarmed at a disturbance nearby bolted, dragging him some distance. The boy’s screams brought help, but not before he had received painful injuries. His shoulder was dislocated and his wrist broken. A wound in the back of the head necessitated several stitches being inserted and there were minor injuries. He was admitted to Brockleliurst Private Hospital.

BANDSMAN COLLAPSES. TIMAR-U, Januray 25. Percy Victor Segar, aged thirty-six, who resided at 29, Wa.iJiti Road, collapsed and died whilst practising with the Tinian) Municipal Band about ten o’clock this evening. Mr Segar, who was a married man with three children, was a well-known electrician. It is thought that death was due to heart failure and an inquest will not be necessary, DOWNING FATALITY. (Australian Press Association.) ADELAIDE, January 27. The Rev. H. Joyce, aged 46 years, Chairman of the South Australian Congregational Union, was drowned at Middleton Beach,, while live other bathers, in lading Mr Joyce’s daughter, had narrow escapes.
