hr Philips was the chief woman ulliecr of tile Labour Party. She represented Sunderland in the last Parliament. being returned unopposed, but ua s badly beaten at the last election, ller scholastic career was a brilliant one. culminating in her taking the degree of P.Sc. She was an investigator under the Koval Commission on the Pour Law, 1907-8, was organising secretary of the Women’s Trade Union League 111 12, was general secretary of (he Wono'ii's I.a hull r League, 1913 was a member of the Kei oiistriletioii Col idee 1917-18, and was a member of the Collslimuis' Council of till' .Ministry of Food 1918-19. She was a member of the Advisory Committee of Magistrates for the Cmnit.v of London, ami uas secretary oi the Standing Joint Committee of the Industrial Women’s Organisations. She published several honks dealing with economic subjects from the women’s point of view, and alo edited one or two pttblieat ions.
